Ahhh, only two more installments left. Thanks for all the kind words of support I’ve received about this series. It really did just start with an innocent tweet during #TNI, and it snowballed into a 10 week photo series. I’ve really enjoyed putting it together, and I can’t promise there won’t be a second 100 Things I Love about Travel somewhere down the line.
But until then, it’s your turn to come up with your own list. What is it that gets you going? What is it that you love about getting out on the road? I’d love to hear about it, so comment below, or write your own post and link it here.
Feel free to go back through the rest of the series to refresh your mind.
19. Songthaews
18. Salt Flats
17. Being treated like family on the holidays

One of the coolest experiences of the trip, spending NYE with our new friend's family in Buenos Aires
16. Shady bridges
15. Boats
14. Balloons
13. Fresh Seafood from a Beach Vendor
12. Patagonian Winds
11. Too Many Drinks on One Table
10. Bungee Jumping
You’ll notice there are no picture of the actual bungee jump itself as my lovely wife was more nervous than I and didn’t snap any pictures as I was doing it. It was an incredible experience, and even though I had bungeed before, doing it from 400+ feet was insane. Highly recommended if you’re in Queenstown, New Zealand.
As always, we have another video for you today. This one comes from New Zealand again, from our time in Rotorua. We went to a Maori Hangi (barbecue/dinner/show) and were treated to several cultural shows. This video is of the famous New Zealand Haka, a cultural dance that was made famous by the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team.

I had forgotten all about Songthaews until I saw this post! It really is amazing how many people can you fit in a sonthaew!
No kidding. I remember when we were going to Koh Samui in Thailand we had to take a songthaew to the ferry from the train station, and it was like an hour ride, with way too many people and all our bags. It was brutal.
This is lovely!! I especially like the balloons and Being Treated Like Family. Not too sure about the shady bridges though.. nothing terrifies me more!
Haha, thanks Kelly. The being treated like family is something I'm going to write about as it gets closer to the holidays, but it was awesome. A friend of a friend lives in BsAs, and she hooked us up with her. We met for lunch and drinks which turned to more drinks and dinner and more drinks and eventually an invitation to spend New Year's Eve with her family. It was an incredible experience.
You are right, the reasons why we love to travel are simply endless. I enjoyed his series and am right behind you. Do you feel my shadow??
Thanks Inka. I definitely think I will be doing another one of these at some point in the future. There's just too many things to love!
We are always remarking at how un-litigious the rest of the world is. We get so used to having every corner padded and every potential risk removed for us in the US. Since you were just in BsAs, I will use the city sidewalks as an example – you never know if you are going to trip over an exposed pipe or a missing tile (why in the f**k would you tile the sidewalk?). This is why we always buy travel medical insurance. Our country has made us very soft. =)
Great list.
Ain't that the truth. Add that my wife is an attorney, and it's double trouble for me.
You have no idea how much I want to go to the salt flats and do some bungee jumping… hmm, if I could only mix both! Love shady bridges too… crossing them is very exciting and scary at the same time.
Haha, Norbert, I think you're on to something. There is no bungee jump on the salt flats, yet, and I'm willing to guess that would be a very marketable activity. You better patent thatn.
Ha! Should work on that!!
I still feel bad about the lack of bungee pictures. But seriously, how am I supposed to focus on anything other than trying to breathe when I've just watched my husband dive headfirst into a rocky gorge? HOW??
You should feel bad!
God love you, Adam…..I couldn't do it.
Oh, I bet you could. It's not that bad.
Love all the photos, especially the “shady bridges” one!!
Thanks Jade. The shady bridge one was from a boat trip we took in the Mekong. We got out at one point and were walking along a trail before having to cross this bridge to get back to our boat.
Ain't nothing better than Uyuni!!! I had the time of my life there. Will never forget it. Looooove the bungee pics!
Agreed! Definitely one of the best tours we've ever taken.
The best balloons I have seen are one normal sized balloon with lots of little balloons inside! And I too love Songthaews! – I think we have fitted 15 plus two small children!
I'd love to know the record for amount of people fit in a songthaew.
Sampling as many different local foods and beers (if available) as is reasonable – that's what we love about travel. There are more than a few shady bridges in Turkey should you ever feel the needs to sample more!
Haha, thanks! That's our favorite part of travel as well. Can't wait to make it to your neck of the woods to try out the cuisine.
i like the too many drinks
WE did, too, well that night at least. The next morning we came very, very close to missing our bus. WE woke up to the hostel owner banging on our door telling us our bus was here. It was an interesting morning.
Quite an amazing list! Sad that the list is going to end soon.. Wish you had started the count down from 1000
That's why count-ups are always better than count-downs… they never end
Well since this is my site, there's no rule against making another list! Besides, it's just 100 Things I love about travel, not TOP 100.
The bungee photos made my stomach flip and I'm just sitting here looking at them on the computer screen!
Haha, it really wasn't that bad. OK, well, it was pretty scary. But it was awesome, too.
In *love* with number 18.
Me, too. Thanks so much. Honestly this is one of my favorite pictures out of our entire year long trip. I LOVE it!
what a great way to share your faves with others and create a visual, easy-to-browse keepsake for yourselves! love it! my faves are #19- songthaews rock! #17 it's humbling & wonderful to be welcomed into such personal events by new friends…and i love buenos aires nye's with francisco's family
and #10 must do soon! i can understand meg's nervousness and lack of photos! i asked francisco for a skydive once for my birthday, and he couldn't bear the risk of his b-day present being responsible for my death, so he bought me a vertical wind tunnel visit
great series guys!
Thanks so much Lorna! Bungee jumping is pretty awesome. I had done it several times before at home, but it was from about 80 feet, and I was 18 years old. Fast forward to 30 years old and add close to 400 feet, and it was a lot scarier. It's funny that Meg was so frightened because we both went skydiving years ago in Switzerland, and she was calm, cool, and collected.
I'm going to make Shaun handle the bungee jumping. Not for me. I'm looking forward to skydiving but something like this would make me pee myself. :X
Haha, Megan is the same exact way. She was fine with skydiving, but bungee jumping was not for her.
Wow, I just came across your top 100 list. What a cool idea! Love it.
Thanks Ben! It was really just dumb luck that I thought of this idea a few months back. I've enjoyed putting it together, so I'm glad others are liking it!
Those Patagonian winds are crazy, I had a tough time with it! I have a similar picture as yours, though my face doesn't look quite as happy!
I did this jump in Queenstown too! Talk about an exhilarating introduction to bungy jumping! Props to you!
