A Day in the Life

by Adam Seper on April 14, 2011

Imagine waking up, throwing on swimming trunks, walking outside of your room, turning a corner and being here…

Glimpse of the beach in Taganga, Colombia

Glimpse of Taganga a few steps away from our front door

Then imagine walking down the one main street in the town and ordering a jugo de frutas mixtas (mixed fruit juice smoothie) and receiving a concoction of fresh, tropical fruits you’ve never heard of.  Imagine taking your fresh fruit smoothie breakfast and sitting down on the nearly abandoned beach and taking in the views…

Imagine walking down this small beach with crystal clear waters and climbing on and over the rocks to get a better view of this idyllic small little town…

Hiking around the water

Imagine finding the perfect rocks for skipping on this calm, beautiful little bay…

Skipping rocks in Taganga, Colombia

Always love skipping rocks

Imagine laying your towels down for the day, just mere steps away from the perfect Caribbean waters, flagging down the man selling cups of fresh shrimp and squid, waving for the man selling recently homemade coconut cookies, checking out the various crafts and jewelry being sold by the nicest, not-at-all pushy vendors (non-pushy touts, only in Colombia), and spending the day reading and swimming and relaxing.

Imagine ending your day with the perfect sunset…

Sunset in Taganga, Colombia

We made it a point to watch the sunset every day we were in Taganga

This is Taganga, Colombia.

And why did you guys leave this place?

Haha, well, to be fair, we arrived planning on staying about 3 days and ended up there for 10. We did contemplate staying there for the remainder of our month in Colombia, but there were just too many other places to see. Every night in Taganga, we’d say, “One more day,” then we’d wake up and say, “Well, how bout one more?” It sucks you in and makes you never want to leave.

Glad you guys liked Taganga! Wouldn’t say it was very secluded or abandoned though, there were a lot of people when we were there and in fact quite noisy at night! When did you guys visit? May have had something to do with the season. Unfortunately, it’s obvious the place is building more and more hotels so it’s going to change very rapidly.

    Are you still in Colombia?
    Peace

We were in Colombia in March of 2009, so it’s been a few years now, but it was not very crowded when we were there, especially during the week. I’m sure there’s been a lot of new construction and the town has changed quite a bit in the two years since we were there.

    Um, yes please!

  • Turkey’s For Life

Yes, yes, yes, we can imagine all of that. A great start to my morning. Breakfast and then being taken away for a day in Taganga. How lovely! Thanks. :)

It was not busy when we were there, especially during the week. I’m sure there are many new buildings and the city has changed a lot during the two years since we were there.
