Passion–noun 1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.
To know me is to know my passions. My passions encompass many things. I have a passion for sports (particularly anything St. Louis related), for music (I‘ve been obsessed with Phish for over 15 years now), for food (bacon, Indian food, pizza, I‘m talking to you). I have a passion for hiking, for bike riding, for camping. I have a passion for reading, for writing, for creating.
Why Do I Travel?
Most of all, I have a passion for TRAVEL. Travel consumes me. It is something I think about on a daily basis. Traveling is something I wish everyone would put a premium on. I suppose that’s why I’m here, to share my passion of travel with anyone who is interested. To throw in my two cents about why I think everyone should get out of their comfort zones every once in a while. To go to another country and throw yourself into the culture, to see how others live, to expand your mind, your soul, and yourself as a person.

Who am I? What is my travel background?
Let me back up a bit though and tell you about myself. My name is Adam. I have been married to my wife, Megan, for four years (as of summer 2010). Travel is a passion we both possess and have shared with each other during our decade long relationship.
We traveled often during the early years of being together, with cheap road trips around the United States being the norm, often involving live music, camping, outdoor activities, or a combination of the three. A short, three week jaunt through Europe back in 2005 saw us get engaged, and it was the first time I experienced international travel outside of Mexico (Megan studied abroad in Spain, but I was an idiot and did not join her). If we weren’t addicted to travel yet, the Europe trip put us over the edge. After our three weeks there, we were hooked, hopelessly addicted, and we needed more.
The next summer saw us married, and suddenly we were on the path of many others in the United States, the so called “American Dream.” We were saving for a house and contemplating when we were going to start a family. But a funny thing happened along the way. We thought about what it was that we truly wanted out of life, and while a house and family was somewhere in our future, it wasn’t the immediate future.
The Trip
Shortly thereafter, my wife came up with an idea, one that I first deemed ridiculous and absurd. She suggested we chuck it all and ditch the idea of the “American dream” of owning a big house and nice cars and lots of toys and stuff. Instead we should save our money for something else, something bigger, something that we would cherish and remember forever. And so the idea of what we call The Trip was born.
A year long trip around the world in fact. After the inception of the idea, it didn’t take much for us to commit and start planning. So we went over our finances, our debt, and what we were spending and bringing in. We came up with a plan, we implemented it, we cut back on many things, we saved, saved some more, and then saved a bit more. A little over a year and a half later, we were off.
The trip encompassed 358 days, 4 continents, 11 countries, and nearly 90 cities. To say it was a life changing experience would be an understatement. This experience changed us both forever, and while we initially thought the trip would get this travel bug out of our systems, it didn’t take long to realize that the complete opposite was going to happen.
Our Travel Future
If we weren’t hopelessly addicted to travel before the trip, we certainly were now. Instead of crossing countries off our list, we added even more. Instead of being satisfied with our travel experiences, we became even hungrier. More, more, more has become a theme. We want to see more, to experience more, to eat more, to do more, to travel more. We want more.
But now we’re back. Megan is back at her career as an attorney. I decided to delay my career as a high school English teacher for at least a year and try my hand at travel writing. And while our travel has come to a brief halt for the moment, I truly believe we’ve only just begun.
We’ll be taking short trips here and there for the time being, but getting back out on the road for a longer period of time is certainly in our future. Right now, it’s time to reload, restock, and get another plan together. While another big trip is not currently on the horizon, ideas are floating around, plans are being discussed, and taking off yet again on another epic adventure will happen.
